British Attack in Normandy
Mobile Defense & Counterattack
We were trying to get in on the June 6th world wide wargame event for D-Day, but with some last minute changes, we had to settle for one of the first British attacks to break out from the beachhead area in June. In this scenario a regiment of Shermans and a motorized rifle battalion are attempting to overrun the German front line, then hopefully break out into the open area near Caen. There were six objectives on the board and each side randomly rolled for two of them, which created some interesting battle plans. The Germans had one of their objectives as being the crossroads near the front lines, so a lot of emphasis was placed on holding that area.
The battle featured numerous attacks, melees, long range tank duels, artillery and more. Each time it seemed as if the British were about to get rolling, the Germans would knock out some of their armor or throw back an attack. The defining moment of the game was when a Waffen SS panzergrenadier counterattack went in against a treeline position and almost died to a man, eliminating the last German threat to the British advance. Overall, it was one of the best BKC 2 games that we've had.
