BKC IV: Knife Fight
Armored Slugfest in Restrictive Terrain
Back to BKC for another East Front slugfest! This time it would be a Russian armored spearhead looking for a hole in the German defenses where they could open a gap to allow the recon forces through as well as armored units to get into the German rear areas. The terrain was definitely an issue, with a river, hills, forests, and several villages in the area, meaning that the longest field of fire was around 50-60cm, so there would be some close up tank duels. The Germans got off to a great start, blunting the initial Russian attacks, landing two deadly artillery barrages that wiped out most of the accompanying Russian infantry, then launching their own counterattack. In fact, by the end of Turn 5 the Russians had about given up! However, the die rolls began to change, the Russians knocked out a few Panthers, and all of a sudden the Germans were in trouble. The Germans tried to reshuffle their forces, but it was too late. Out of reserves, their heavy armor knocked out, and under heavy fire, the German defense collapsed and the Russian armored groups moved to cement their victory, despite heavy losses.
