WMA: Seleucid Revenge
Pikes & Elephants Carry The Day
After the beating the Seleucids took at the hands of the Romans the last time out, I was hesitant to commit them to another battle for awhile. However, we needed something to play with short notice (our normal status!) so decided to trot these same armies out again. For this battle, however, the Seleucids decided to go with a 1500 point "travelling circus" option, which means everything from pikes to Gauls, camels, Thorakites, cataphracts, and all sorts of strange units. The battle started out pretty fast, but when the first combat occurred, the Seleucids were on the losing end and things were about to get out of hand once again. However, the Romans then failed a series of command rolls and the Seleucids got their opening. They were able to get a block of pikes along with the elephants to form up in a devastating attack that saw them get over 30 dice several times! They literally blew through the main Roman line, destroying units as they went. Coupled with a unit of Gauls that launched a very successful flank attack, the Romans were doomed. In the end the Romans had reached their break point while the Seleucids had suffered only a few casualties.
