WMA

Based off of the popular Warmaster Fantasy rules, this version adds most armies from the Classical, Dark Ages, and Medieval periods. Each unit consists of three stands with a simple, but every effective command and control system that creates a unique level of chaos. Each army is led by a general and several leaders, plus a set number of units that must be in the army, leaving the remaining points up to the players to choose their forces. We use 10mm figures by Old Glory, Magistar Militum, Minifigs, and Kallistra. We find that WMA and WMM are fast playing, a lot of fun, and is certainly suitable for large groups where we occasionally use up to 2500 points per side. We currently have around a dozen armies and are looking to paint more plus do a campaign at some point.

11th Annual WMA Tournament (cont)

German Landsknechts Emerge Victorious!

This was the second night of our annual Warmaster Ancients tournament, which again featured and interesting mix of armies. Each player gets a 1,000 point army plus three territories (from the campaign system) as their starting force. This usually gives a good 90-120 minute game and everyone gets in three games. Some years we get in all three games in one night and some years (like this year) it can stretch to two nights. We use the recommended rolling for a number of turns, meaning the game will go either 6, 7, or 8 turns, but can be decided by hitting a break point as well.
The Germans did really well this time and the Romans, who usually do pretty good, had an off tournament performance. The Indians gave their usual showing of last place, but they're fun to play with! The Hittites put in another strong performance, using their mass of unarmored infantry and skirmishing chariots to good effect, but they could not overcome the Germans, who ended up as champions this year, followed by the Hittites in 2nd, Romans in 3rd, and the Indians in last. The Hittites were awarded the Masters of Mayhem for causing the most casualties during the tournament.
