Age of Reason: French Attack
Prussian Hilltop & Village Defense
After a long discussion we decided to go back to using the 15mm charts and ranges, especially for smaller 3-4 player games as we were having issues with the 25mm ranges we had been using for so many years. In this scenario the French were attacking two Prussian brigades on a hill behind a low stone wall and another brigade in and around a village. To the wide side of the board the Austrians planned to use their advantage in numbers in cavalry to push back the Prussians and flank the hilltop. As can be expected, it was a desperate fight, but the French had underestimated the hilltop position and while the Prussians were being stretched thinner and thinner, the line never broke. The French did take the village after a determined defense, but their cavalry attack, while successful at times, was unable to completely defeat the Prussians on that side of the board. In the end the French had to concede defeat as they were getting up to the 25% withdrawal check and had taken severe casualties in a fierce fight.
