BKC IV: Russian Counterattack
Russian Counterattack Fades Quickly
We now have forces to play several periods during WW2 for BKC IV. However, everyone seems to really like the 1941-42 winter battles, so a Russian counterattack scenario was set up for our regular gaming session. The Russians had two tank brigades, with both set up on different sides of the river and with the aim of securing the river bridge. This would allow Russian forces trapped on the other side to escape the German advance. The Germans had several small commands that were being rushed to this sector as fast as possible and they had a small battlegroup already deployed in the town and across the bridge. The Russians did a fantastic job with their scheduled artillery and at first it looked like there might not be enough Germans to slow down this armored juggernaut. However, the German command values really came into play, allowing the Germans multiple activations while the Russians started to have some bad command rolls. German artillery pounded the accompanying Russian infantry while the German armor started to find the range in the various tank duels. The Russians kept pouring their armor forward on both sides of the river, but ran into heavy resistance. There was a final two turn massive armor slugfest, but at the end most of the Russian armor was burning and the Germans won the scenario.
