Normandy '44: British Attack
Tenacious German Defense Prevails
A fictional Normandy scenario this time as the British launch a suprise attack across a bridge, hoping to split the German defenses in two, supported by armor on the British left. The Germans initially were spread pretty thin, but had good terrain to defend in. More Germans would be arriving shortly, so it was up to the initial defenders to hold for as long as possible. The British had multiple chances to end the game early, including a blunder that positioned a squadron of Cromwells across the river, then they survived all of the German fire! In fact, this was one of those games were there were quite a lot of blunders rolled and tremendous opportunities on both sides that never quite worked out! This game, however, did feature pretty much everything. Devastating artillery barrages, infantry battles in the bocage lined roads, armor slugfests, etc. The British kept coming and the Germans always seemed to have an answer, although at times it looked like the defense was about to collapse. When the Panther company finally arrived, the Germans thought the day was theirs. However, the Cromwells on that side of the board put up a tremendous battle and just about knocked out several of the Panthers. The Panthers then shifted positions and began engaging the British who were coming up on the German right. Despite two Panthers with only onbe hit left each and a few other German tanks, the defense held and the British conceded the victory to the Germans. A very hard earned win for the Germans as it appeared that the British were going to breakthrough at any time, but some ill timed blunders hurt the British command structure, saving the Germans.
